At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

In a moment of madness, I signed up to do the Scilly Islands Swim Challenge on 6th September 2022. It involves swimming 15kms in one day between 5 islands. The longest swim will be about 5km (yikes!). As I only started swimming about 4 years ago and used to get freaked out swimming in open water - this will be a massive challenge for me.

I am raising money for Alzheimers Society as we really need to find a cure and fund support of those that have it. Having lost my Mum to the terrible disease I have seen first hand  how it robs a person of their memory and personality. There is a person diagnosed with dementia every 3.2 seconds which is frightening.

Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever.Until the day we find a cure, they will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.

The Society also contributes to much needed research.

Any donation large or small will be much appreciated and all funds will go to the charity, as I am funding the participation in the event myself.

Wish me luck :-)
