UPDATE: 27.11.2011: finished the run and home - according to my GPS the finishing time is 2:04:20 = I was aiming under 2Hrs - in my defence: get your violins ready: I've been fighting off laryngitis for 2 days and ran with a wheeze! But I didn't have a fevr anymore so I ran anyway - I wasn't walking to the north pole and it was a mild 15degrees - I had no excuse! It was frigging windy and there was a lot of uphill - i'm from Norfolk - hills are tricky - but I maintained a speed of an average 9min 30secs per mile - not bad = I really wanted to do under 2 but I'm still pretty happy with the result and that I finished - the photos should be good - I was so so happy to finish it - I really strugged the last mile! i don't know why - too weak - must train harder - love you peeps for your support xxx
UPDATE: 12.11.2011 : training is going well - averaging 9mins 15 to 45secs per mile over 7 miles - pelvis is holding up well (bit of a problem with stability if it didnt!) (slight twinge now and again) and shoulder causes no trouble at all - ankle prangs a bit if I've been wearing heels! I'm motivated every training session by the guys who have endured so much more - when I don't want to get up at 530am before work to run or strength train I do because they do - despite their injuries. They make no excuses - so I cannot make any excuses. And having read the book - they seemed to have been smiling through the whole adventure from injury right to the pole - TRULY amazing people!!
This year I'm running for Walking with the Wounded - (Harry's arctic heroes) please visit their website if you don't know them yet - www.wwtw.org.uk - they're doing amazing work - currently training to climb Mt. Everest in 2012 and I would like to raise as much as possible for them. They are helping to raise awareness for service men and women who have been injured - and help them rehabilitate either back to work or into civilian work. As a by-product of this they have helped to inspire so many people to show them what can be achieved despite injury, hardship and illness. In addition to what we've seen on TV one of their schemes has been to send some of their service men and women who were injured into schools in deprived areas to show underpriviliged children what is possible if they have the opportunity and the motivation.
They truly are amazing people and this is such a fantastic charity that has already benefitted so many people. Please be generous and help to spread the word if you can't find the cash.
