We stand for everyone affected by dementia to find a cure

Story

I watched, somewhat helplessly, as two of my grandparents lost their lives to dementia.

It is hard to describe the heartache of seeing people you love slip away with an illness that fundamentally strips them of who they are, along with their pride and dignity, long before they are physically gone; being unable to comfort them during moments of frustration at knowing their mind is no longer what it was; the elation at brief moments of “normality” when they remember a favourite song or childhood memory, only for it to be dashed moments later when that recollection is gone again and anger sets in.

It is a devastating illness, for not just sufferers, but their families, friends and carers who are trying to do their best whilst not fully understanding how to bring comfort to those they love.

Running is really not my "thing" and this is going to be an incredibly tough challenge - mentally and physically. But I am so unbelievably chuffed to be chosen to run on behalf of this wonderful charity to fund vital research into groundbreaking treatments, cures, diagnosis and prevention so others don’t suffer the same.

Thank you all so much for your support. x
