Story

I have a big birthday this year on the 26th May. As part of my celebrations I’m planning to dye my hair purple in the hope of raising money for the Northern Ireland Childrens Hospice. Please donate what you can, according to your means, as all donations will be very much appreciated.

We as a family are so thankful for the Northern Ireland Childrens Hospice. In 2014 our teenage daughter Leah, died there in peace and dignity, surrounded by love.

The Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice is a local charity providing specialist respite, symptom management and end of life palliative care to over 370 infants, children and young people living with life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses both in the family home and in our Children's Hospice in Newtownabbey.

At Horizon House, the Children’s In-Patient Unit, families can come for Supported Short Breaks, allowing them to spend time together without the constant worry and stress of clinical care.

Care can also be provided in the family home, giving parents support, medical advice and hands on care, allowing them to do the very simple things most people take for granted - like take a shower.

Every day the Children’s Hospice supports parents who are facing the unthinkable, the death of their child. They continue to support the family in the months and years after their bereavement.

·       A set of scrubs for a nurse costs about £20.

·       A specialist mattress for a child in Horizon House costs £155.

·       It costs £1400 for 24 hours of nursing on call service per family.

·       A week of family support, (supporting siblings, counselling, therapy sessions and bereavement support) costs £1700 ”
