Story
Thank you for visiting our JustGiving page.
The war in Syria touches us all and and whilst we watch in anger and
despair we feel powerless to do anything. However, we can support the
major charities who are working within Syria, and need our support to
carry on their invaluable work.
There are many victims in Syria but those who are most vulnerable and
yet the least to blame are the children. Since the conflict began in
2011, best estimates are that 8,800 children had been killed by 2014
(UN), and the latest estimate is over 15,000 (SOHR): in other words,
more than the entire under-15 population of South Bucks. The number of Syrian children injured or made homeless is of course much greater
still.
UNICEF workers in Syria are delivering vital aid to the people of the
region. They help provide life-saving clean water, health and
psychological support to the children whose lives have been devastated
by the conflict. By visiting the UNICEF web site www.unicef.org.uk/donate/donations you will be able to see how your money is being spent. Some examples are:-
12p = one polio vaccination
£5 = a baby blanket
£136 = a school in a box (containing school equipment for 40 children
to continue their education during an emergency or natural disaster).
£990 = supplies a tent which can act as a temporary school or health
centre.
There are numerous other examples of how your donations can help. If
you normally donate your fuel allowance to charity you might consider
giving some to this cause.
So in the hope of raising some money and supporting UNICEF's appeal I
am holding a charity day on Friday 9th December. There will be a
street collection from 9.00AM till 4.00PM, and from 10.00AM till
3.00PM there will be the opportunity to buy mini Christmas cakes,
biscuits, a Christmas plant and to take advantage of a Christmas
present-wrapping service. Plus the chance to find out more about Syria
and its history. We will also be serving teas, coffees and mince
pies. Please come along or if you are unable to come on the day
please do donate HERE.
