Story

LEADING THE WAY...

The story of Guide Dogs began in 1931 with the creation of the Guide Dogs Committee by Muriel Crooke and Rosamund Bond, who set about organising the training of the very first four UK guide dogs from a simple lock-up garage. What many local don't realise is that garage was located in New Brighton, Wirral.

Through the tireless work carried out by the two women, and countless others that follow them, Guide Dogs has gone onto become one of the most recognised charities in the UK.

Waiting Magazine promotes and celebrates the achievements of Wirral people and organisations, and, with 2016 being the organisation's 85th anniversaryare helping support Guide Dogs, by encouraging Wirral residents to support the amazing work still carried out locally by the charity to this day.

The ability to get around is vital in order to live a full life yet thousands of people with sight loss never leave home alone. We empower visually impaired people to do that and rely on the support of the public to fund the guide dog service.
