Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Lee was a wonderful man. A loving husband and devoted father. He brought so much fun and laughter to all our lives. We had celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary a few months before he died. He was the head of Queen Alexandra Sixth Form College and touched the lives of so many of his pupils and colleagues in his long and successful career.

Lee was diagnosed with a large, aggressive glioblastoma multiforme brain tumour in September 2020. We were devastated to learn that it was too late to operate and there were no other treatment options available.

Lee was a very fit 51 year old man. He ate healthily, didn't smoke and only drank socially. He wasn't overweight, he ran, cycled and went to the gym. He was always out walking or playing golf and looking after himself. He had a razor-sharp wit and a fantastic sense of humour. He was sociable and so much fun. He was the life and soul of any party. He loved life and lived it to the full.

What happened to Lee  just seemed so cruel and unfair.

He passed away on 10th November 2020, just seven weeks after his diagnosis. Losing Lee has been just heart-breaking but sharing his story has given me something positive to focus on, especially after all the tears. Raising awareness and much needed funds for Brain Tumour Research is a way for us to keep his memory alive.

So ...... this summer, we will be walking Hadrian's Wall. 84 miles from Bowness-on-Solway to Wallsend. Myself and our 3 sons, Will, Tom and Michael will be joined by extended family and friends as we walk along this UNESCO world heritage site.  Most of the family will be walking with us and some will be our vehicle back up but all very important  to help us complete this challenge. We hope to have a big finish at Segedunum and would like to invite you to join us for the last few miles. (dates to be confirmed when covid restrictions are lifted.)

We would like to raise £2740 as this is the cost of just one day's research into brain tumours. If we reach our target then this would mean that we could sponsor a day's research at the Queen Mary University of London.  It is a Centre of Excellence and studies glioblastoma multiforme brain tumours. This is what Lee was diagnosed with last year.

So please help raise awareness and donate what you can to such a good cause. If some good can come out of all the tears that have been shed, then it will be worth it.

For Lee's memory. For Lee's legacy.

Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer. Just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this disease. We are a leading voice calling for support and action for research into what is called the last battleground against cancer.
