Ward 23 Helvellyn challenge · 4 March 2017
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Bright Northumbria is a registered charity that with your donations allows us to support a number of projects which can make life changing differences to the care we provide to our patients.
The charity was first formed in 1998 and since that time we have been able to use the generous donations for all sorts of different projects and new equipment. For example, being able to provide new
diagnostic equipment to fast track results for our patients with cancer, sleep alarm monitors for our special care baby unit at Wansbeck General Hospital, providing non-slip slippers for our patients at high risk of falling and the introduction of the Wansbeck Oasis which is a relaxing area for relatives of patients who are at the end of their life’s.
Ward 23 at North Tyneside General hospital has been
massively supported by Bright and through your charitable donations the ward has been able to provide a much more calming and home away from home environment for our patients. For example, some of our patients are living their life’s with dementia and through the work of Bright we have been able to make changes that have made a difference and helped our patients feel at ease . We have been able to introduce larger clocks which have allowed the patients to see better and stop the risk of them becoming disorientated by not knowing the time or date. We have also invested in activity items and reminiscence tools, which help to engage our patients and to evoke conversations. We have been able to get tools called RemPods which are back drops and items from yesteryear to bring back memories and to bring out discussions. We have an old shop front, a beach and even a living room with an old fashioned “Wireless” which also plays songs of the time. Very recently Bright have supported us in the purchase of a revolutionary piece of activity software that has a variety of different apps and engaging tools that help to not only engage but to also help bring smiles to our patients faces. The software is called Reminiscence Interactive Therapy Activity but we simply call her Rita. The staff and patients on our ward call the software Rita and it has become much more than just a tablet or piece of software, she has become a part of the ward team that is always there to help brighten a patient’s day.
The support that Bright have shown our ward has been amazing and because of this the ward team have decided that it’s our time to help raise some cash to say THANK YOU. Bright volunteers take on the huge task of supporting our patients and staff, and to help raise donations our ward team have decided to take on a climb of the third highest peak in England – Hellvellyn. The team will be taking on the 950 metre climb to show our support of Bright.
Every day we have fund raisers and volunteers who work in our hospital shops to support Bright and we see these people as the true unsung heroes of Bright Northumbria. This fundraising activity is to say thank you but to also highlight the amazing work of Bright, so more people know what their donations help us to achieve.
Thank you for reading our story.
