Whitby to Whitby (The Great British Bike Ride for Andy Clague)

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In 2016 a group of us started cycling South from the beautiful town of Whitby on the Yorkshire coast, with our ultimate destination again strangely being Whitby, (harder than it sounds!) as we will next approach from the North having circumnavigated the British mainland in between. The quest is inspired by Mike Carter’s book about the same journey, One Man and His Bike. Our idea is that each June we gather as many friends and family as possible for the trip, which we are breaking into bite size chunks to be digested year by year until completed – hence “Whitby to Whitby”.
Among the original group behind the idea was our great friend and keen cyclist Andy Clague. Andy did much of the planning for year one and was to be a key member of the team until we finished. Tragically, Andy was diagnosed with a brutal form of blood cancer before the 1st leg and this was the start of a very painful and debilitating battle with cancer that very sadly ended at the end of 2017 when Andy was 46
Andy was a very funny, larger than life character, a family man and a great friend who is very sadly missed. Throughout his treatment he never lost his sense of humour and lust for life and we feel very strongly about doing what we can to help. Andy’s family and friends have set out about preserving Andy’s memory by raising as much money as we can for the wonderful Christie Cancer Hospital in Manchester where Andy received such brilliant care.
