Story

Over the years Wika and I have taken part in some amazing challenges in fantastic locations all with one thing generally in common- they were in warm climates!

For 2021 we dive into the unknown and take on the Mongol 100 https://mongol100.com/ a race across a frozen lake in deepest Mongolia.... 100 miles over four days (four marathons) on foot in temperatures that can drop to as low as -40.

Of course when I say a 'race' for us its about finishing and even more importantly experiencing what we hope will be an amazing event in a stunning location- we don't call ourselves 'Ultra Tourists' for nothing!

As mentioned, most events to date have been a little warmer than we expect in Mongolia and this brings with it a whole new set of challenges from clothes and gear selections to hike/running/waddling with ice spikes on the shoes- not sure where we will be able to try that out before the day living in hot and humid Hong Kong! In fact as we sit here in 30+ degrees even thinking about warming foods/drinks isn't appealing!

So whats driving us to take part in this event aside from the personal challenge and a wish to see this part of the world in all its winter glory? We will be raising funds for the fantastic charity- CHILDREN WITH CANCER UK (CWC). https://www.childrenwithcancer.org.uk/about-us/what-we-do/childhood-cancer-awareness/

Wika and I have been fortunate to raise between us five healthy children all of whom have brought us great joy. we have also over the past few years started to Foster in Hong Kong and have had great delight in helping a number of young children through this. All of these experiences have been with healthy and active children and we consider ourselves fortunate when on average 12 children a day in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer, please take a moment on that statistic- 12 children a day!

CWC are one of many fantastic organisations helping families dealing with the impact of children's cancer- Wika and I are hoping to provide some support through this challenge.

To encourage donations a little more, we are pleased to announce that the St James's Place Foundation is also supporting our efforts. The Foundation has kindly offered to match 1:1 all donations made up to GBP5k. So if we hit our target of GBP5k, CWC will recieve GBP10k in total.

We understand that for many these are difficult times and as such any donation however large is welcomed and appreciated.
