Local GP Dr. Martin Lawrence's dying wish was that patients in his practice should be able to die at home; his work was made reality through the work of District Nurse Jane Phillips MBE. The service has grown and now provides free hospice at home care covering five GP practices in Oxfordshire.

Story

Where do I begin……

My Dad was my hero like most Dads are and 25 years ago I decided to run the London Marathon. I was only just eligible and was one of the youngest runners that day. I was 18 and 1 month to the day and in the build up and training for that day was my Dad. I feel he and my mum were  my cheerleaders and I was desperate to make them both proud. I wasn’t good at school and I had my struggles, but this I knew I could do this. Something no one in my family had done, nor anyone at my school, I would be the first! He would come out on his bike on my long training runs and support me with an energy drink and keep me going. I love those memories. On the day I ended up finishing in 4.06 hours and I could see how proud he was of me when I finished, this was and is one of my most cherished memories of my life.

I had always said that the London Marathon was unfinished business as the time was not what I had hoped for. This time I’m a little older, a little heavier, and a little more comfortable that I’m going to struggle to beat that time. But the reason for doing this and supporting the Lawrence Home Nursing Team is to remember my Dad and thank the nurses who looked after him so well in the last few days of his life. I cannot express the gratitude enough that I have for them and the support they gave us as a family.

This will be for him, his memory and LHNT.

Love you Pa x
