In April 2018 I am running the London Marathon for Alzheimer's UK.

Alzheimer's UK is a cause which is very close to my heart. My wife's Nana, Julia,  is currently suffering with the Alzheimer's disease. Thankfully my mother and father-in-law are providing full time care for her. However, this is not easy for them. It can be challenging and very demanding for them. Whenever my wife and I can, we go and give them help and support, to allow for my father-in-law to have a bit of a social life and his brothers travel to help as well. Julia cannot be left on her own as she will become confused and upset. This can be hard as my father-in-law has given up a lot to care for her. My wife and I recently got married and this confused Julia as at times she didn't know whose wedding she was at and couldn't remember being at the wedding. She often doesn't realise she is an elderly woman and sometimes wakes up thinking she has to get ready for school. She doesn't recognise her grandchildren and often forgets she has three sons. It is just heart breaking. 

Also my Gran suffers with dementia and my Mum is her full time carer with the help of her siblings and I stay whenever I can to give my Mum some help. Although my Gran remembers who we all are, she struggles to retain any new information and often gets in a muddle as to who is living where and what is going on on a day to day basis.

With both my Gran and my Wife's Nana it is so hard to see what is happening to them. But it doesn't just affect them, it affects all of those around them. In order for my Mum or my in laws to go anywhere alone, someone else has to be there to look after my Gran and my Wife's Nana. We are all involved in what is happening to them.

So I am asking for all of your help and support to raise as much money as we can to help eradicate this truely awful disease. No matter how much you donate it will all go to such a truely amazing cause and help people like Julia and my in laws, my Gran and my Mum and more families who are living in the same way.
