Story
This May, I'm taking on the 100 Miles challenge to raise money for Breast Cancer Now.
Breast cancer runs in my family. This year, my mother was diagnosed with it. It was an unexpected diagnosis following a surprise finding on a mammographic screening, but this is also her second bout of the disease, having previously been diagnosed with breast cancer 23 years ago.
A cancer diagnosis is always incredibly tough, but it has also been amazing to see how rapidly advances have been made in detecting and treating breast cancer over the past two decades. But more money is always needed, for research and support. So, I've decided to try and do something worthwhile, and raising money for Breast Cancer Now seemed like a no-brainer to me!
In the UK, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every 10 minutes, and 1 in 7 will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. It is also a less well known fact that, although generally much rarer, breast cancer also affects men, a risk that can be increased through inherited factors such as BRCA gene mutations. Breast Cancer Now is a wonderful charity that is here for anyone who has been affected by breast cancer, the whole way through, providing support and information for today and hope for the future. They are an invaluable source of knowledge and kindness, whether you've been directly affected, know someone who has been, or just want to learn more about breast cancer and its treatment methods, whether for yourself or to help you support a friend or family member. Your contribution, however small, will make an impact.
Every little bit helps. Whatever you can afford to spare, thank you for your support!
