Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Since 1996 the number of people with diabetes has increased from 1.4 million to 2.9 million (data from April 2012). I am one of those people, I was diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic in 2005 (i.e. I take tablets to regulate my insulin levels).
There are around 850,000 people in the UK alone who have diabetes and don’t know that they do …. So that brings the total up to just shy of 3.8 million people.
Diabetes can create many problems some
of which are fatal … heart disease, strokes, blindness, kidney disease,
amputations, depression and neuropathy (nerve damage).
My diabetes has improved greatly in the
past nine years for which I am extremely grateful; who knows what would have
happened if I had not gone for a blood test as “I wasn’t feeling quite right in
myself.” So, I want to put something
back into a hugely helpful charity by climbing Kilimanjaro – a testament to my
improved health and no mean feat according to anyone I speak with (it is 5,895m
high or if your prefer 19,336ft).
I am paying for this trip myself out of my own pocket so any money you choose to donate will go directly to Diabetes UK.
Please help with whatever you can
contribute, be that £1 or £100, it will all make a difference to help battle a
condition that is worsening right now and for future generations based on
current predictions.
