Young Windy - Open Heart Surgery
You may know me as Windy Wilson Scotland's greatest ever AMATEUR weatherman. Dad to young Windy and husband of Gusty
On Monday 21st December my then 14 year old son "young Windy" underwent open heart surgery for a large ASD (Atrial Septal Defect) at the Royal Hospital for Children Glasgow, where he spent an agonising 6 hours in surgery before being transferred to the PICU (Paediatric Intensive Care Unit) to spend another 18 hours, before finally being transferred to Ward 1e
Young Windy's CHD (Congenital Heart Defect) was picked up by accident during other tests that were getting done, so it came as a massive shock to us all
Gusty was instrumental in dealing with all the medical stuff and getting him sorted for surgery. Something that went on for nearly 18 months due to Covid restrictions
I'm raising money for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) so Gusty can organise local screening up here in Scotland, and I'd be eternally grateful for your donation
Thank you so much for your continued support in all my fund raising efforts. To date, Team Windy have raised a staggering £190,000 for good causes over the last 10 years
*And it goes without saying. A special heartfelt thanks to Chuck "golden hands" McLean, all the Theatre 8 Team, the staff in the PICU and Ward 1e . . . and all the other NHS staff that were involved in our journey along the way
Every week in the UK at least 12 apparently fit and healthy young people die of undiagnosed cardiac conditions. With your donation, CRY can reduce the frequency of young sudden cardiac death (YSCD) by working with cardiologists and family doctors to establish good practice and appropriate screening facilities to promote and protect the cardiac health of our young. By supporting CRY you will help save young lives from these potentially fatal cardiac conditions.
