Story
5 year-old Bruiser, a Bulldog cross, was rescued and brought to Woodside - RSPCA Leicestershire Branch as his owners left him alone for long periods of time in filthy conditions without access to clean water. Bruiser was quickly seen by one of our vets who found that he was suffering from Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS), often found in dog breeds with short noses. This condition means that Bruiser has to make huge efforts just to breathe, and can lead to more breathing and digestive problems like fainting, food regurgitation and vomiting. Bruiser needs urgent surgery that will widen his airways and shorten his soft palate, a procedure that is estimated to cost around £1,500. Despite his suffering, Bruiser has become a firm favourite here at Woodside. He's such a happy chap who likes to say 'hello' to everyone he meets. Bruiser's favourite things are nice long, walks and he loves a nice belly rub. He urgently needs this operation so that he can recover and find a loving forever home. Please give a gift today of whatever you can afford and help Bruiser get his 'happy ever after'.
It costs around £18,000 a week just to run the animal centre. We are proud to be an independent Branch of the RSPCA, but we are a separately-registered, self-funding charity. We are entirely dependent on the generous donations of our supporters and do not receive any government or National Lottery funding.
