I am Yafiah Hafeez Hoorani. When I became the SKMCH Student Ambassador I thought that the cause was simply helping those who cannot financially afford proper treatment for cancer. However I quickly realised that the mission is in fact a testament to the power of community, awareness, and determination.

I vividly remember the first words I was told as the Student Ambassador ‘Whatever you do, do it with willingness and passion, let this cause become a part of you.’ These words have shaped my journey and I believe that it is my job to make a case for those who can’t speak for themselves.

There is a beautiful line from one of my favourite childhood books, The Little Prince, “It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.” This line has stayed with me. True impact isn’t just in numbers or statistics, it’s in the unseen moments of kindness, the silent battles fought with dignity, and the hope we give to those who need it the most.

So why we should take part in such activities? Because they teach us invaluable lessons, empathy, perseverance, and the ability to create change, no matter how small. They show us that kindness is not just a virtue but a responsibility. Getting involved in a cause greater than ourselves not only benefits those in need but enriches our own lives in ways we never imagined. The world becomes smaller, our understanding deeper, and our actions more meaningful. Every effort, no matter how small, counts. Change doesn’t happen overnight. The fact that you are here today on this page, supporting this cause, means that hope is very much alive.

So, let’s keep pushing boundaries, breaking barriers, and most importantly, let’s keep believing that our actions our voices can make a difference.
