Great North Run 2021 · 12 September 2021 ·

The world's biggest half marathon is back and the biggest ever number of Team Bowel Cancer UK runners are coming together with one aim - a future where nobody dies of bowel cancer.

Story

Sarah, Nicki and I have been friends since we joined the Bury St Edmunds Concert Band some 20ish years ago! We have been through a lot over the years but our friendship remains one of the best! We took up running thanks to parkrun and have completed all sorts of running challenges and events over the last few years, with an awful lot of virtual challenges to keep us going in 2020. A glass of prosecco usually helps us celebrate the finish. In fact we are known for it!

We are raising money for Bowel Cancer UK as the lovely Frances, Sarah’s mum and number one fan of the band, was diagnosed early in 2020; our plan was to run the Great North Run (the first time it didn’t clash with our annual last night of the proms concert).  We all know what happened next so we’re back in 2021 and fingers crossed we’ll get to run it this year.  We’re delighted to say that after almost a year of treatment Frances was given the all clear but that does not stop the fundraising, so we’re kicking things off with an event Sarah has organised called the Mega May Challenge!

We appreciate all the support our family and friends are giving us.

Lots of love,

Yvette
