Story
When mum had a cardiac arrest in a Mitcham supermarket, the first aid team were quickly on the scene and performed CPR until the ambulance arrived. Despite all their efforts, my mum did not recover and died 6 days later.
If an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) was available to the first aid team, the outcome may have been different. See the British Heart Foundation's page to see how an AED can save lives at http://www.bhf.org.uk/heart-health/life-saving-skills/defibrillators.aspx
The Resusitation Council (UK) explain how these devices are simple to use, and can be operated by people with no experience. These devices will take the user through the operation. They quote a 75% survival rate if defibrillation is applied quickly. http://www.resus.org.uk/pages/aed.pdf
So we would like to raise enough money to provide an AED in Mitcham, which would be available to the community and potentially save lives. We think this would be a suitable tribute to our mum.
