We support young men to transition to lives of connection, meaning and purpose

Story

I work with men as a psychotherapist and I volunteer as a mentor with A Band Of Brothers Cornwall. It's the best organisation I know that prevents suicide, pound for pound. We work with young men aged 18-25 involved in the criminal justice system, and older men including myself find that our weekly circle and other activities give a sense of brotherhood and mature, compassionate masculinity that we've never had before, and always longed for. We're building real, pro-social communities that are desperately needed. Cornwall has the highest rate of suicide in the UK and in the UK, as elsewhere, there are ZERO statutory services for men in crisis. We are the frontline.

I started this 548km route purely for selfish reasons, but a man at the Somerset Arms in Semington just advised me to raise money while I'm at it. Great call. I didn't ask your name brother 🙏 Apart from childcare from 7-12 Aug I have till 25 Aug to make this mission. They say it takes a month so will be tight. Wish me luck! And give me a shout if you'd like to join me for a day or two. The vibe is walking, sleeping rough and pubs, shooting the shit with the good people of Albion. We're at war with darkness and together we push it back, one soul at a time. Not just for men, but the women and children who love them. 👊

PS this is a soulful walk through England's ancient spiritual heartlands. If you're interested see https://britishpilgrimage.org/portfolio/mary-and-michael-pilgrims-way/

We are going for £50k as I believe it's OK, good even, to aim high and miss the mark. We are not victims here. Anyway, £50k isn't much in the scheme of things, collectively.

abandofbrothers (ABOB) works with young men involved in the criminal justice system, providing them with the support they need to make the transition to an adulthood free of crime, and full of connection, purpose and meaning. Central to all of our programmes are experiences that have come to be termed “rites of passage". These consist of an intensive residential weekend followed by 3 months of mentoring. The young men that step onto this path are invited to draw a line under their adolescence and begin to consider and move towards becoming the adult man they wish to be. The journey is held and guided by trained older men from the local community who come with a rich diversity of life experience and backgrounds.
