We provide brain injury rehabilitation to survivors and their families

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On Saturday 10th September I will be taking on my biggest challenge yet, I will be walking 100km along the "Thames Path" from Putney Bridge to Henley-on-Thames (luckily that's home!).

Starting at 9am in Putney I will be walking for about 24 hours and through the night.

In addition to this, I am also running two half marathons this year to add to my challenge. The first was the Reading Half Marathon (April 2016) and the Henley Half Marathon coming up in October!

But these challenges are nothing compared to the challenge of life following a brain injury. Whether mild to moderate or more serious, brain injuries do not discriminate and the effects are long term.

I would be grateful if you could please make any donation, which will give me motivation as the kilometres clock up with each step. Your donation will help Headway Thames Valley provide direct support to people recovering from and living with brain injury and help to keep me motivated through my training.

"Headway Thames Valley, a beacon of light guiding us through the last four years of the unknown territory called a brain injury. Without whom we would not have got so far. A lifeline." A brain injury survivor and client of Headway Thames Valley.

Brain injuries do not discriminate - they strike people of all ages, from all walks of life and in a variety of situations. An acquired brain injury (ABI) is an injury caused to the brain since birth. There are many possible causes, including a fall, a road accident, sports injury, tumour, stroke, cardiac arrest, complications during operations and post viral infections such as meningitis.

Due to advances in medical  technology, survivors of serious brain injury are a growing population and this makes brain injury the fastest growing disability in the UK.
