Batten disease is a group of rare, progressive neurodegenerative, genetic metabolic diseases that occur in children & adults worldwide. The BDFA's Vision is to be the central point of excellence in the UK for supporting affected families funding research into a potential cure.

Story

What greater pain could mortals have than this: To see their children dead before their eyes?

Batten Disease is a rare fatal genetic illness affecting children. A seemingly healthy child begins suffering seizures, spasticity, loss of language skills, followed by blindness and progressive loss of cognitive ability. The illness is relentless. It's progressive. It does not get better. It is not curable.

It is a devastating diagnosis and it affects the entire family: the child, their parents, their siblings, their relatives and friends. I cannot begin to imagine the burden and the pain a family affected by Batten Disease have to endure. To see your child, once a promise of happiness, slip away with each passing day is terrifying and isolating. That is why I am raising funds to make sure that the families have all the help they can get.

Battens Disease Family Association supports families, raises awareness and facilitates research into Batten disease. Please donate however much you can to this cause.

Many heartfelt thanks

Alex
