Grove Cottage provides social and educational activities for people of all ages with learning disabilities and special additional needs; to help them develop their potential, avoid social isolation by supporting lifelong friendships, and to provide respite for their families.

Story

Since my beautiful niece Isla was diagnosed with Down Syndrome in 2009 Grove Cottage Nursery has always been there, making a tremendously positive difference to our lives and especially Isla’s, which is why I really need your help in raising much needed funds in order to ensure the nursery continues to touch the lives of other young people with special needs and their families.

I therefore ask you to sponsor me to take on two challenges this year:

Mount Kilimanjaro - July 11, 2013

Everest Base Camp -November 14, 2013

Over the two challenges I will cover more then 180km, ascend to the height of 5,895m, camp under canvas for 25+ days in temperatures ranging from 30 to -20 degrees Celsius, lose sense of all dignity and most likely suffer sunburn, windburn, frost bite and mosquito bites (they love me) so I am sure you will agree I am earning every penny of my sponsorship!

Isla is the most credible and special young lady who I couldn’t be prouder of. In the last year not only has she conquered her two feet and given little brother Charlie some competition in the walking department but she has also begun to integrate with mainstream schooling where she works hard to keep up with her peers and challenges herself every day. Isla is almost 4 years old now and throughout her life the nursery has been there to ensure she meets her goals and overcomes the many challenges Down Syndrome presents her with and it is imperative that other families and children benefit from the same incredible care and support provided by Grove Cottage Nursery.

Grove Cottage Nursery depends on the support of its local community for funding but this doesn’t always cover the short fall in providing 1:1 support for each and every pupil in the nursery, which is why every pound you sponsor me will make a real difference to the current and future pupils of Grove Cottage Nursery.
