I am 18 yrs old and was really lucky  to sail on Stavros last year. In fact before then I did not really know what a Tall ship was. I was one of the youngsters you read about in the papers, hanging about on street corners till the early hours and constantly being moved on by the police. You could say I was well known by them as I was often on the fringes of trouble.  I started to get to know the community police officers who seemed to take an interest in me. They suggested  ways that I could challenge myself, to give me an insight into what I might be able to achieve if I applied myself. Thats when I first heard about Tall Ships!! . Because neither me or my family could afford a voyage they asked the local Tall Ships branch to sponsor me. In fact there were three others like me on my voyage that were supported with the help of another local charity called the Woodger Trust.

This was such an amazing opportunity that would never have happened without the help of so many people that I dont even know. I do have a job now working in a local restaurant, but I know that could never earn enough to help other young people sail on a voyage like I did. After years of running away from coppers I know I can run, and with a bit of training I am sure I can get round the London Parks course. With your help I want to raise about three thousand pounds. Then I really can make a difference as that is enough to send about six young people on a real character building trip that may well change their lives as well.
