My name is Abbas Aliakbar and I am a Pharmacist currently working for the NHS. I was born and raised in the beautiful city of Lahore, Pakistan and moved to the UK about 20 years ago. I am proud to be a Pakistani British/Scottish!

Like most of you, when me and my family heard the news of floods in Pakistan we were very upset. But I don't think we comprehended the extend to which our dear country was effected!

Over 30 million Pakistanis have been effected by the flood. That's almost half of the UK population (About 67 million) and the area affected is as big as the whole of UK! That is absolutely mind boggling. So far, over 1100 people have sadly passed away. 

One of the families from Karachi got in touch with my dad and informed him that they had lost their house, their corner shop as well as all of their belongings. They had to move to Lahore where they are currently living in a  rented property with their kids with nothing to their names. You can see the top of their house in the cover picture, it is the white one to the right and almost completely submerged in water! This is just one story and I'm afraid to say there are many more stories and much more horrific ones.

There is no hiding the fact that there is corruption within the government but there are numerous small, local charities including this one, that are doing very honest work to help these people.

At Akhuwat, they have a two phased plan to deal with the current crisis as well as to provide long term help for families. See details in media.

So, please give generously! Whatever you can give can help provide a family with a meal, clothes or money for rent or temporary accommodation.
