Abbeyfield's Run Around The Houses

Run Around The Houses · 13 May 2022
A run around the houses for A Breath of Fresh Air!
At Abbeyfield & Wesley, we provide housing, care and support to older people in later life. The last two years especially have reminded us of the positive impact that getting outdoors has on wellbeing.
From Portstewart to Banbridge, we already have some lovely outdoor spaces, but want to do more, so that all our residents can enjoy the benefits of accessible, colourful and sensory-rich gardens – and that takes money. So on Friday 13th May, our Finance Officer Julie Marshall is doing a sponsored run to raise funds for our Breath of Fresh Air gardens project. Starting her run from our Abbeyfield house at Barnagh in Donaghadee, Julie will run a whopping 41 miles in the one day, finishing at Wesley Court, Carrickfergus.
Our fundraising target is £5,000 and the money raised will help us provide new planting in raised containers for ease of access; cold frames and small greenhouses where residents can enjoy growing fruit and vegetables; and garden furniture for more outdoor socialising. Did you know that even a short amount of time spent in a garden can lower blood pressure, improve vitamin D absorption, and help with better sleep, as well as being an enjoyable social activity? So your donation will really help our residents to enjoy that life-enhancing Breath of Fresh Air.
As well as your donation, you can encourage Julie in her fantastic effort by sharing this page. And please help us build our supporter base by liking and sharing our Facebook posts with friends, family and your local community in the run-up to the event.
Thanks for your support!
