Story
I've decided to throw myself out of a plane to raise money for Action Bladder Cancer UK (ABC). Bladder cancer is not a rare cancer - it is of the ten most common cancers in the UK - that's 4% of all new cases. Over 20,500 people in the UK are diagnosed each year, but unfortunately it has a high mortality rate, as well as the highest recurrence rate of any cancer (up to 80%). Diagnosis can often be late especially in women.
The ABC wants to raise awareness for bladder cancer to be recognised as a common cancer as sadly its the only top 10 cancer where rates of prognosis are getting worse.
The work of ABC has personally impacted me as my grandad was diagnosed with bladder cancer five years ago. Luckily with the support of the NHS and research into bladder cancer, his cancer was spotted early enough to be treatable. However for most patients this isn't the case.
This skydive is not only to raise money for improving treatments, providing advice and support of patients with bladder cancer but it is also to raise awareness for the signs and symptoms of this cancer as by increasing public awareness it can help to save lives and to allow for families to have more time like my own.
Any donation will be valuable as bladder cancer is the most expensive cancer to treat (costing £65 million annually) yet only 0.6% is dedicated to research funding which is where it can help change lives.
If you are unable to donate please share to spread awareness.
