Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.  I am raising money for the Concordia Foundation by dressing as a super-hero this week (for the full 7 days!).  I am not leaving the house in anything else but my costume! I am going to work in it, visiting the supermarket in it, taking public transport in it and even going out to dinner in it!

Who am I?  She-Ra, Princess of Power!!

I’m making a big fool of myself, but I hope this will encourage people to support the cause and I have been overwelmed with the response so far.  Thank you!

All money raised will be spent buying instruments and lifestraws (portable water filters) for underprivileged children, and fund outreach projects in the UK & abroad through the Concordia Foundation.

When deciding what my first fundraising activity would be, I searched the internet for inspiration and toyed with the ideas of skydiving, trekking and abseiling.  However, I wanted to choose something original and ideally something inexpensive so that all money raised would go straight to the charity rather than pay an experience from which I would personally benefit.  I already gain so much from the work that I do with the Concordia Foundation; last year’s outreach trip into the slums of Kenya changed my life.  I wanted to do something free, funny and different, so that's why I came up with the idea of wearing a Fancy Dress Costume for an entire week.

Many thanks

Abbie x

The Story So Far…

Last year I travelled to Kenya with the Concordia Foundation for a project entitled 'Music for Life'. We took 100 plastic fifes (donated by Alun Hughes) and ran a fife workshop for AIDS orphans from the Kibera Slum and with children in the 'Ghetto Classics' club in Korogocho Slum. We also worked for three days in Nairobi Boys School. In addition to workshops & performances, we were able to distribute 500 LifeStraws (portable water filters) to those in need.

This year's Fife Project is taking place in Tower Hamlets, London. The schools we are visiting have had their music budget cut to zero.  Future projects include a return trip to Kenya in 2012 & possible visits to India, Brazil & South Africa (& hopefully more!). Fundraising is currently underway and several instruments already donated.

Costs

Fifes -  £5

Lifestraws - £10

Family Lifestraw - £30

Instruments - £100 to £600

If you’d like to specify where you would like your donation to be spent, please let us know!  Likewise, if you have any instruments you'd like to donate, or would like to organise your own fundraising event on behalf of this cause, please get in touch!
