Abigail's Mean Bean Challenge · 20 March 2019 ·

The Mean Bean Challenge - eating nothing but plain rice and beans - will give you an opportunity to experience hunger, and raise money to end poverty and hunger for people like Nida.

Story

*Update -- the UK government is doubling all money donated to this campaign until the 17th May, up to a whopping £2m!!! Whatever you donate will have double the impact.*

Would you eat nothing but two mugfuls of beans and rice for 5 days? I would, but not because I like beans that much (in fact I'm not a massive fan at all).

Every year, hundreds of people across the UK take this challenge. I remember one year a friend of my parents told them that after he completed the challenge, he had a big Chinese takeaway to celebrate. It made him ill because his stomach couldn't cope after eating just beans and rice (needless to say, I will not be doing that)! It's unpleasant, but the point is thousands of people have to live on this little food their whole lives, not just for 5 days...

Tearfund is an amazing charity, I've volunteered with them before and now I want to raise money for them. They do work all around the world aiming to destroy poverty in the developing countries and encourage more ethical living in the UK.

Tearfund doesn't just alleviate poverty: they empower people so that they can lift themselves out of poverty.

£267 could give six people in a developing country the training to work as waste collectors at a hub, enabling them to feed their families, improve their living environment and overcome poverty.

Please join me as I take a stand against poverty!
