Swimathon 2020 · 27 March 2020 to 31 December 2020 ·

Cancer Research UK and Marie Curie are calling on the nation to get down to the pool for Swimathon 2020 - thousands of swimmers, two great causes, one big charity challenge.

Story

On the 27th - 29th March, over 21,000 swimmers will join together to swim a distance of their choice! Mine will be 100 lengths.

My grandad is my world and a role model for my children, who absolutely worship him as do I. Before Christmas we were served with the news that he had esophageal cancer.

This type of cancer is only treatable if it's isolated and has not spread. My grandad passed the all important fitness tests to be able to get through the operation, only then to be told, sorry it has spread to other organs and lynth nodes. He has 6 to 12 months to live. Now all I have is a short time to make more memories and help him enjoy what he has left.

My aim is to raise money to aid research to help in finding this sooner, because at the moment esophageal cancer is diagnosed too late, the symtoms are usually only noticable when the cancer has usually already spread. Finding this sooner could have meant my grandad had more time with us.
