British Horse Society is the UK’s largest equestrian charity. We protect horses, support those who care for them, and champion safety, care, off-road riding routes, participation, and education – creating a brighter future for every horse and rider.

Story

The British Horse Society represents the interests of the 4.3 million people in the UK who ride or who drive horse-drawn vehicles. With its membership and that of its Affiliated Riding Clubs and Affiliated Bridleway Associations, the BHS is the largest and most influential equestrian charity in the UK.

The Access Fighting Fund has been established to help safeguard the BHS’s future ability to take on landowners who are threatening equestrian rights of way and ensure the Society is in a position to fight to save equestrian routes at public inquiries and in court.

The fund was started in 2007, after a case in which fighting for the rights of riders cost the BHS around £30,000 in costs.

If you enjoy riding or carriage driving off road, and the protection of our equestrian rights of way network is important to you, please help us with a donation or contact laura.pepper@bhs.org.uk for fundraising ideas. We've just hit 50% of our target, please help us reach our £100,000 target!
