We support people with Spinal Cord Injury to help them live full, independent lives

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. My challenge it to swim the equivalent of the channel in 12 weeks.

I’ve never been a big sports participator, but I’ve always loved swimming. 6 years ago when I lost a lot of weight - swimming played a big part of that - an ideal sport for someone who was waiting to get a new hip due to arthritis. Since my operation I have felt happier and healthier, but since the arrival of Matthew, my gorgous little boy, two years ago, some of my good habits have slipped. Being a busy working mum makes it hard to find the time to exercise.

Swimming has always been the sport I’ve turned to (it’s the only one I can actually do!). This summer, I’ve been swimming 2 or 3 times a week and I want to keep going once the school term starts in September. I know I can do the distances needed - the challenge will be fitting in swimming around my job and looking after Matthew. I can’t just go for a swim when I feel like it - but my family have offered to help a bit. Going out swimming on a cold dark winter night, after a long day at work, giving Matthew dinner and getting him to bed at night will sometimes be hard - but I’m going to give it my best shot!

I hope that you will support me. On the days when I don’t fancy going swimming it will be the donations and support of my friends and family that will make me go! I’m hoping this challenge will help me feel healthier and fitter, will be a challenge that will stretch me but is achievable if I remain focused and will raise money for a good charity at the same time.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Thank you,

Lorna
