Actonians Ladies cricketers wear pink for 19 Aug breast cancer fundraising game and lunch

Wear something pink on Thursday 19 August 2021, say Actonians Cricket Club’s women cricketers, and be part of the team’s efforts to spread awareness about breast cancer and raise money to help prevent breast cancer

Actonians Ladies will be “Playing in Pink” on 19 August, and hosting a fundraising lunch and a (hopefully) lively women’s game at their West London home ground on Gunnersbury Drive, Ealing W5 4LL. The match is a highlight of this year’s Actonians Cricket Club’s Cricket Week, and will feature a Pink Legends team facing up to an Ex Actonians XI.

The “Playing in Pink” teams will include Actonians Ladies’ own breast cancer survivors, club sponsors and supporters, current and past members, and perhaps even one or two celebrity women cricketers.

According to the Ladies team chairman, Carlene Bender, herself currently receiving treatment for breast cancer, “Our ‘Playing in Pink’ day will be not only a fun and social occasion, but an educational one – we are planning to have talks about what people can do to prevent breast cancer, and there will be a live (hands-on) demo of how to check your breasts.

“Cancer Research UK statistics say that one in seven women will be diagnosed with breast cancer at some point in their lives,” she adds, “so we want to make sure our team members and colleagues know how to recognise any breast cancer warning signs from early, so they can access treatment options right away if they’re needed.”

Please get in touch (contact details below) if you would like to get involved with sponsoring or part-sponsoring the event – the more costs we cover, the more we can donate to our breast cancer charity. If you run a local business and would like to donate a prize for our raffle on the day, that would also be very welcome.

Then on 19 August, get your pink tshirt/bra/ribbon/whatever on and show your support for breast cancer prevention – head down to the club to cheer on the match, or, even better, tag Actonians Ladies in your pink-wearing photo on social media: the club will donate an extra £50 to our chosen breast cancer charities [Breast Cancer UK and Coppa Feel!] if more than 10 photos are tagged and shared.
