Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my fund-raising page and support my forthcoming hiking challenge of the Yorkshire Three Peaks on 10 September.
When I moved to North Yorkshire in February, I wanted to be able to hike more in the Dales and transfer from the Slough branch of Samaritans to the Harrogate branch, where I am a listening volunteer. A tick to both so far! Now comes a bit more of a challenge, and something I have always wanted to do, climb the Three Peaks of Yorkshire.
Following a phone call with one of the team members from a company I teach SUP for, Alfresco Adventures, I very quickly agreed and signed up to walk the Yorkshire Three Peaks of Pen-y-ghent 694m, Whernside 736m and Ingleborough 723m. The Y3P route is 24 miles and includes 1585m of ascent in under 12hrs. Knowing Alfresco have experience in climbing these 3 Highest Peaks of Yorkshire, I knew I was in good hands, yet, I am under no illusion this will be an easy task for me these days. Even though I have summited Kili, made it to Everest Base Camp, trekked the Annapurna foothills and trekked in the Andes to Machu Picchu, I expect a challenge as I embrace hiking in my 50's. I will need to put many hours of training in over the next two months and I am not great at commitment to training. But, this will put me in good stead to be able to continue a good training regime for my return to Everest Base Camp in April '23.
Saturday 10 September is Suicide Prevention Day, coincidentally the day we are taking on the 3 Peaks, and will therefore be a very important and poignant date to my personal cause of raising awareness and discussions surrounding death by suicide, remembering those we have lost to suicide & those bereaved and receiving much needed donations to keep our branch in Harrogate and District running to it's maximum potential.
Thank you for visiting and donating what you can. I aim to achieve my own personal goal of climbing the Yorkshire 3 Peaks in September with your support.
