Story
We lost our sister and daughter Rhian Nadine Fry in 2001. Rhian was to all of us; family and friends alike, a normal healthy and very happy seventeen year old, looking forward to an exciting future and all that life had to offer her. Returning home from rides on her bike with rosy cheeks, glowing with health. Little could anyone of us imagine the real truth - Rhian had an unknown heart defect. Since loosing Rhian we have been slowly raising money for CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) in a memorial fund in her name.
We have recently decided how the money raised will be used. For £8500 we can hold a screening for the sixth form students in our local college. Currently we have raised in region of £5500 so still require a further £3000 for this heart screening to take place.
In around 80% of cases of young sudden cardiac death, there are no symptoms. This is why CRY believes screening is so vitally important and currently tests around 12,000 young people every year. In Italy where screening is mandatory for all young people engaged in organised sport, they have reduced the incidence of young sudden cardiac death by 89%.
My good friend Tim Rudkin and I plan on conquering 8000ft of welsh mountain climbs during the road cycling route as a final push to achieve our overall target of £8500.
The Wiggle Etape Cymru is an ‘epic’ lung-busting, leg-aching, end of season closed road sportive. At 88 miles it is the most challenging closed-road test in the UK.
Hopefully you will be able to spare some cash and feel this is a worthwhile cause. If you are able to dig deep and we can achieve our target I promise I wont bother you again.
Thank you very much for your time and generosity
