What is the reason to fundraise for Chums?
In 2017 I suffered a great personal loss and was invited by the Chums charity to a bereavement meeting with other young people. Meeting together helped us to understand that our circumstances were not so exceptional and that we were not alone in dealing with our grief. Personally, this helped me rationalise my feelings and acknowledge them healthily so I they have minimal effect on my daily life, allowing me to enjoy myself and be in control of my emotions.
Information about CHUMS
CHUMS hopes to provide mental health and emotional wellbeing support to as many children and young people as we can across Bedfordshire, Luton, Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. CHUMS currently funds 5 services which include the Bedfordshire Suicide Bereavement Service, Babyloss Service and Recreational Therapeutic Service. Without support from fundraisers and donors CHUMS would not be able to provide support to the children, young people and families who otherwise may not receive help when they need it most.
DONATION INFORMATION
How will your donations be used?
Please not be intimidated by these numbers - every donation counts! If lots of people who think they can’t give each take a pocket change approach to donations it will help just as much.
- £5 buys a workbook for a child to use throughout their support at CHUMS
- £10 can buy one copy of ‘Beyond the Rough Rock’ which is a book that offers guidance to families who have experienced a suicide death in the family.
- £15 can buy a Worry Monster for a child who is accessing our Emotional Wellbeing Service. This doll is a coping mechanism for children to feed their written worries to the monster and make them go away.
- £20 donation can go towards crafts for our Babyloss Memory Day. This is usually held in a hall and is a day for families to come together to remember their baby/ies who have sadly died but due to lockdown we are sending out craft packs for the families to make in memory of their baby.
- £500 helps to fund a weekend retreat for families under our suicide service
- £1750 funds an 8 week music program for 6 children
