Story
I'm riding 61 miles / 100km “London to Brighton Off Road 2024” for the British Heart Foundation in memory of my Grandad, who died aged 86 last year. Without the work of the BHF and some amazing health professionals he almost certainly wouldn’t have reached that age and I might not even have known him. While he was active for his age he led an unhealthy lifestyle, being of the generation when cholesterol and saturated fat were part of your 5 a day.
He had his first heart attack when he was 50, followed by a second much larger one at his home within a couple of years. The family doctor immediately came to his home before the ambulance could get there and brought a defibrillator with him. Just as well as he had a cardiac arrest while the GP was there. He had a triple heart bypass shortly later and the surgeon told him he would now live another 10 years. With retirement and lifestyle changes he went on to live another 34.
Please help me achieve my relatively modest target of £250, so I get a free t-shirt, but more importantly raise vital funds to power life changing research into heart and circulatory diseases.
