At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

Because of COVID restrictions, my planned run of the Dam tot Damloop was cancelled. But I'm undeterred! I'm going to run from my house in Amsterdam to the picturesque village of Marken, on a little island, on 19th September 2021. Depending on the route, this is between 16 and 18km. This is the first race I've ever run, and the longest distance I've ever attempted! I'm currently in training in order to be able to do it.

My mum was diagnosed with Alzheimer's this year. It's a condition for which there is no cure, although there are some palliative drugs available. So I'm raising money for the Alzheimer's Society in the UK, who support those with Alzheimer's, as well as funding research into a possible cure.

The picture on this page is of me on 2nd May 2020, the first day we were allowed out to exercise after a month and a half of strict lockdown, in which we couldn't leave the house at all except to buy food. I still savour that freedom every time I go out to run!

Please give generously. More and more people in the modern world suffer from dementia in its various forms, and anything you can give will help to support them and help find a cure.
