Story
Since September 2020 I have been doing a gap year at Addlestone Salvation Army and I have had the privilege to witness and help with their amazing charity work.
So over the month of March I am aiming to run 155km/96.3 Miles this is the equivalent to 5km/3.1 miles per day! I am also aiming to post a random challenge every day on Facebook and Instagram so you can get involved and have some fun.
Here are a few things that Addlestone Salvation Army has been doing to help out the community.
- Weekly shopping for those shielding
- Food parcels for those that need help with food. (Last year they delivered over 2000+ food parcels)
- Meals and shelter for homeless (Currently they have 2 sleeping pods which are being used to keep rough sleepers off the streets. They also cook daily meals for the homeless community)
- Prescription pickup for those shielding
- Emotional support/ counselling (Mental health has suffered severely over the past year due to Covid 19 and because of this many people are in need of support and counselling. Before Covid 19 Addlestone Salvation Army was offering a “safe space“ in one of the local schools, this enabled many students to obtain emotional support)
- Financial/budgeting help (Many people have suffered financially due to Covid 19 and because of this Addlestone Salvation Army has offered to help people with their budgeting)
- Help with filling out forms ie PIP and other financial support forms (As mentioned many people are struggling financially and many have lost their jobs, this has meant that our community support worker has to work around the clock to help many people fill in beneficial forms)
There are many more amazing things that are being done however I cant list them all.
To conclude I would like to say thank you for supporting all of this amazing work, you will have helped change many lives. Remember that every penny helps.
