Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

England Deaf Rugby Union, have committed to attend the inaugural World Deaf Rugby 7’s Competion in Australia. The competiton will take place during April 2018 in Sydney, Australia. Due to the cost of funding community projects and confirmed fixtures during the 2017 /2018 season against Argentina Deaf & New Zealand Deaf, the World Deaf Rugby 7’s - Australia event will have to be a self-funded (individual sponsorship) event. All, EDRU personnel have to raise money to secure this trip.

Here's a little bit about me, My name is Adam Faulkner and I was born with severe to profound hearing loss in both ears.

In every way, shape or form, I have always tried my hardest to inspire deaf children and their parents to look forward to doing things that they really can do. It's hard for parents to see this when they are first informed that their child is deaf and that speech will be tricky and learning will be slower, due to difficulty hearing pronunciation and misheard teachings.

I have given so many talks to parents, teachers and children in Shropshire on how to feel positive, focusing strongly on speech and education and engaging in sports and society. And most of my talking is about my experiences I've gone through, what to do, what not to do, from mistakes or lucky stumbles me and my parents made in my childhood.

Although there is much to say to help all aspects of childhood, rugby was a major sculpture of who I am now. Being deaf and playing 'normal' hearing rugby allowed me to integrate with other hearing children socially and professionally. It taught me discipline, life skills and above all awareness.

Even though playing deaf rugby in a deaf competition might seem to others as a impediment on inclusion into the hearing world, this is what deaf children look up to. It's an experience to share and a way to inspire. If even one deaf child starts to become more outgoing because of the stories I have to share, then I've started to succeed.

As well as this, as always, I would love to go and win something for England, on foreign soil, with a red rose on my chest.
