Climbing Out runs 5 day outdoor activity programmes that help rebuild the confidence and self belief in people who have been through a life changing injury, illness or trauma

Story

Adam:
It was October 2012 and I had just turned 21, about to begin my third year of university, when I was diagnosed with cancer. It seems the diagnosis had been a while coming, though it turns out I got lucky... it had invaded my bloodstream and begun to spread, but I caught it in the nick of time!

The treatment consisted of surgery and chemotherapy, of which still effects me today. The week I finished chemotherapy I began working out and running, usually to the point of sickness. Within a few months I had built up enough strength and stamina to take on some tough challenges.

In September 2013 I ran the endurance event 'Spartan Sprint', in October I ran a half-marathon in Birmingham, in November I took on the 'Pain and Suffering' event and in January 2014 the big one... Winter 'Tough Guy'. The challenges themselves and the training throughout was insanely punishing, but I got through it all with plenty of support from family and friends.

I met Lucy whilst on the Climbing Out programme run by the charity of that name, both having had our own (different) experiences with cancer is an odd way to meet! The week is aimed at bringing together those in recovery from life changing injuries/illnesses and building confidence back into their lives. We are now engaged to be married and plan to continue to fundraise together!

Please help us support an amazing charity.
