Story

Due to work and life commitments I have deferred my entry to 2023. Unfortunately life sometimes gets in the way, and you have to prioritise. I will be there in 2023. Thankyou for your understanding.

Having never ran before, had a full hip replacement at 27 and having always been the tubby who was picked last for anything athletic, I decided to make a big change. I’ve spent years as a lecturer telling students, “you can do anything you put your mind too” well now it’s time to put my money where my mouth is. So I’m going to train and race IRONMAN 2022. In memory of my mum Andrea Daubney, anyone who knows me knows how big this is for me, for all the doubters, I’ll see you on the finish line.

Why Macmillan?

My mother was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer on the 1st of April 2019, we knew the outlook was bleak at best, at the time my wife was heavily pregnant with our first child. My mum lasted just over a month, a month from having heartburn and a bit of a tummy ache, my mum died in the early hours of the 7th of may 2019, my daughter Delilah came into the world on the 4th of may, the last time my mum was awake and aware was seeing her granddaughter for the first and last time. All this time she spoke of how she was going to watch little Delilah grow up, and how she was going to fight to the end, believe me, she did fight, but on this occasion cancer chalked one up. I’m doing this challenge to stick two fingers up and the monster that is cancer. The reason for Macmillan is the pure and simple fact that they are there for you when there’s no hope. When the end is coming they will hold your hand and that of your family and help with whatever you need. Another thing people might not know about Macmillan is that if you are terminally ill, they will give you a £500 grant for whatever you may need. They did this for my mum, I’ve never seen someone beam so much when she opened that cheque. I want to give people that last slice of happiness. So please dig deep folks.

How I’m planning the year out.

Since starting this little running adventure, I’ve decided to take it to the extreme, I’m going to do numerous events, running, cycling and swimming throughout the year leading up to a massive finish at IRONMAN 2022.

Events I’ve completed.

Oliver’s Southport to Abram bike ride (45 miles)

Run 31 miles in July for CRUK (31 miles)

Bolton park run (5k)

Dorney Lake evening triathlon (750m swim, 20km bike & 5km run)

Upcoming events will be posted on here and Instagram as and when I book them.

If you want to stay in touch or if you want to watch my madness in the run up to Ironman hit me up on Instagram, I’m : @life_by_adam I’ll happily follow people back.
