The Good Friday Sportive · 3 April 2015

Cavernoma Alliance UK (CAUK) supports everyone affected by cavernoma. A cavernoma is a cluster of abnormal blood vessels in the brain or spine. It is more common than many realise yet often unheard of. Our mission is to find a cure and to improve lives through support, information and research.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Both my daughters have experienced brain haemorrhages due to a genetic form of bundles of veins that occur in the brain or spinal cord called Cavernomas.  They look a bit like raspberries. Unknown to any of my family we have inherited the Cavernoma gene CCM1. Summer was the first person in our family, that we knew of, to suffer symptoms at 10 years old. My youngest Daughter, Amber, had a bleed when she was 5.

It is rare to experience symptoms from a Cavernoma and even rarer to have the genetic type. There is not much information out there and even health professionals do not seem to fully understand the condition and its consequences. This is where The Cavernoma Alliance have been an abundance of information and support. I would like to give something back to them to show my gratitude and help them continue their fantastic work.

I have never done a physical challenge before so I thought what the heck I'll do 3!

The first one is a 75 mile bike ride on the 3rd April called the Good Friday Sportive. The second one is The Three Peak Challenge. This will be attempting to climb 3 mountains in 24 hours; Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in the Lake District and Snowdon in Wales. I'm hoping to complete this between the 16th and 17th May. The last challenge is a 124 mile (220km) night time bike ride called the Dunwich Dynamo on 4th July. This will start from London Fields and finish in Dunwich in Suffolk.

They say good things come in 3's! Please sponsor me :)
