Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

I am fundraising in memory of my sister Helen who passed away on 27th May 2006, her 21st birthday. Helen had battled a rare & aggressive cancer, Rhabdomyosarcoma, for the 2.5yrs prior to her death.

I will be taking part in the Basingstoke Race for Life in June in Helen's memory - I have donated directly to cancer research & via this page am fundraising for the Chris Lucas Trust. The only charity which fundraises specifically for the cancer that Helen had. So far I have raisied over £11,000 in Helen's memory & with the addition of fundraising by friends & family we are proud to have raised over £20,000 in total.

Helen was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 18 on 18th October 2003. She underwent a year of intensive chemotherapy & radiotherapy. Things seemed to go well & the cancer quickly receeded. Sadly the cancer returned within 3months, Helen was told there was nothing that could be done then an operation was suggested. It was explained the the operation would give her around a 5% chance of survival & it would involve the loss of her right eye & sense of smell. Helen agreed immediately & underwent the 10.5hr operation a few weeks later. More radiotherapy followed then in December 2005 the cancer returned to it's original site. In February 2006 we were told that Helen would live no longer then 4wks. She amazed everyone & lived for 3.5mths spending only her final few weeks at home.

Helen died peacefully at home at 6pm on her 21st birthday.

Thank you for any donation you are able to make.
