Rowing a half marathon for The Christie to celebrate my 50th birthday!

Adrian Broadrick is raising money for THE CHRISTIE CHARITY

Fit at 50??? Rowing for The Christie at Macclesfield · 23 December 2022

It's exciting to see the completion of our new cancer centre but there's still more we can do to support cancer patients as they go through their treatment. The Christie charity provides enhanced services over and above what the NHS funds.

Story

To celebrate my 50th birthday in Jan 2023 I thought I would do something a bit different.

On the 23rd Dec (last day at work before Christmas) I am going to ROW a half marathon in aid of the Christie in Macclesfield.

Yes you did read correctly! That's ROW not RUN. It's an indoor row on a Concept 2 rowing machine used round the world for competitive rowing competitions. Those of you that do a bit of rowing in the gym will know that 21km is not for the faint hearted.

I estimate it will take me 1hr 35 minutes. This is a back braking, ass numbing, finger blistering thing to do so please support me with a donation and let's see if we can make some money for the Christie at Christmas.

The Christie at Macclesfield is on of Astrazeneca's chosen charities for 2022 and will double any sponsorship I make.

Thank you!

Adrian

Thanks to the donations of generous supporters, The Christie at Macclesfield will benefit more than 1,500 patients a year from Cheshire, the High Peak area of Derbyshire and parts of North Staffordshire. It will transform cancer care, delivering local specialist access to chemotherapy, holistic support and information services, outpatient care, palliative care, counselling and complementary therapy and a wider range of clinical trials than at present. The £26 million development is equipped with state-of-the-art radiotherapy treatment machines, a CT scanner and 18 treatment chairs. It will provide 46,000 patient appointments and visits each year and is the third in a network of local Christie radiotherapy centres where patients can access Christie treatment closer to home. The other centres are in Oldham and Salford. It's exciting to see the completion of our new cancer centre but there's still more we can do to support cancer patients as they go through their treatment.
