Story

STOP PRESS.  UNFORTUNATELY WHILST OUT RUNNING ONLY ONE WEEK BEFORE TENBY IN A FREAK ACCIDENT I CAUGHT A TREE ROOT AND ENDED UP FRACTURING A METATARSAL IN MY FOOT.  MY FOOT IS NOW IN PLASTER FOR SIX WEEKS.  PLEASE DO NOT ADD ANY FURTHER PLEDGES NOW AND THE ONLINE DONATIONS THAT WERE MADE HAVE NOW BEEN REVERSED. CLEARLY  I AM MASSIVELY GUTTED BUT HAVE TO TAKE IT ON THE CHIN, BUT WILL BE BACK NEXT YEAR TO TRY TO COMPLETE THIS CHALLENGE AND RAISE THE MONEY FOR MACMILLAN. THANKS FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT.  ADRIAN

As most of you know I've been doing charity events for almost 20 years and each one tries to be more challenging than the last.  Having done [very] long swims, long bike rides, I then last year took on and completed my first (and only so far!) marathon.

So how could I top that? Well perhaps why not try all three endurance events at once Rather daunting I know, but here it is - my attempt at an Ironman - taking place in Wales on Sept 8th.  At 7.00am I'll be battling my way with around 1,500 others brave souls to start a 2.4mile sea swim in Tenby . Apparently there is then a "bonus" 1 mile run up a steep hill to get to our bike waiting in transition so we can then start a gruelling 112m bike ride around hilly West Wales. This adds a further Welsh "bonus" of around 6,000 feet of ascent into the bonkers mix!  Finally, I then get off the bike and attempt to start a full 26.2 mile marathon (what happened to the 2 week taper I managed to get before my 2012 London marathon?).  All of this has to be completed by midnight in order to achieve the much-prized Ironman finisher medal and have the announcer shout out your name together with the proud words that "You are an Ironman"!

I am now taking on this event to raise money for Macmillan who recently cared for my father-in-law who sadly passed away just a few weeks ago after a short and very sudden illness.  Ron used to ride cycle speedway in his prime and was always active.  I want to dedicate my Ironman attempt to Ron as I am sure he will be watching out for me from above every step of the way.  So If you'd like to help support me in this monster of all challenges as well as support a very worthwhile cause I would very much appreciate it. Of course if you'd like to sponsor by CAF cheque instead then please send me an email at adrian.feasby@landg.com and I'll add you to the normal paper sheets.  Please also include an estimate of my potential finishing time in either the email or in any Justgiving "message" you send in on the website.  If I do manage to complete the Ironman I will supply the closest guess with my usual bottle of champagne as a prize.  There will also be a special prize for the best "formula pledge" but of course you'll have to send me an email to enter for that one!

Finally, I'd like to thank all of you in advance for any pledges you can make and also for all your tremendous support during the past 7 months of long and hard training (over 100 swim miles, 3000 bike miles, 500 run miles) and for all the good luck messages and best wishes I've had so far for what will certainly be the biggest challenge I've yet taken on!

thanks

Adrian
