Story
My friend Dave Raspin suffered life changing injuries in a road traffic accident in 2019.
He nearly died at the scene before being transferred to hospital, he spent 2 months in intensive care followed by a further 5 months in the Spinal Unit.
Whilst he was in Pinderfields Hospital he received vital help and support from S.U.R.F. (Spinal Unit Recreational Fund) a registered charity set up for the sole benefit of the patients and staff on the spinal unit.
The average patient spends many weeks and months in hospital and become to some degree institutionalised. To help bridge the gap between the hospital and home the charity organise various trips, for example; cinema, bowling, restaurant visits, greyhounds, xmas shopping, or in-house pizza or fish and chip, quiz nights, etc.
The charity also purchase the equipment that patients might need whilst on the ward i.e. – clothes, TVs, computers etc.
Dave and I met through our love of cycling so it would seem apt that I seek to raise funds for S.U.R.F. by signing up for a cycling challenge, to ride 150 miles in a day from Seascale on the west coast to Whitby on the east coast.
Thank you in anticipation of your help and support.
