On 11th July my wife Clare, son Sean and I will be joined by legendary chef Anton Edelmann, Mark Mosimann (of Mosimanns Club), Nick Robb and Sarah Howe (from Switzerland Travel Centre) as well as Kate Guy and Carolyn Peck to begin a two day, 14 mile trek across the longest glacier in the Alps, the Great Aletsch Glacier to raise money for the charity DEBRA. The 27 billion ton river of ice begins at the top of the Jungfraujoch (11,300 ft) with a six-hour glacier hike, tethered together and crampons on our feet, to the Konkordia Hut with obstacles to conquer including a 160 ft staircase bolted to the side of the mountain. After a short overnight rest, we begin another six-hour hike along the middle moraine of the glacier where the crevasses are like canyons, the meltwater streams are like raging rivers, and the rocks are boulders the size of pick-up trucks. 

For those of you who may not know, DEBRA is a charity that we have supported now for many years. They are the national charity supporting those directly affected by, and working with, Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB), one of the worst diseases you'll ever come across – a potentially fatal skin condition that causes constant pain due to unstoppable internal and external blistering. DEBRA provides lifelong care and support to the entire EB community.

The trip has been completely paid for (thanks to Mosimanns and Switzerland Travel Centre for their kind sponsorhip of the trip) so every penny we raise here will go straight to DEBRA.
