Adrian Ward is raising money for Levern Valley Defibrillator Community Partnership

Adrian's run · 17 October 2020

Having recently discovered that Barrhead has ZERO Public Access Defibrillators, the Rotary Club of Barrhead is spearheading a community partnership to purchase and site 10 PADs throughout Barrhead. (Neilston has at least 3, Uplawmoor 2 and Lugton has 1). The cost of this initiative is £20,000. First, the sites have been identified, owners of property contacted to give consent then monies need to be raised. "Levern Valley Defibrillator Community Partnership" is the vehicle to raise the funds. Hopefully, all sections of the community will support this initiative.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

VERY MANY THANKS FROM ME AND OUR BENEFICIARIES FOR YOUR SPLENDID GENEROSITY SO FAR, TAKING US FAR PAST OUR ORIGINAL TARGET, NOW REINSTATED TO SHOW THIS.  MY RUN WENT WELL ON 17/10 - THANKS FOR ALL THE ENCOURAGEMENT AND SUPPORT - BUT WE'RE STILL DELIGHTED AND GRATEFUL TO RECEIVE FURTHER CONTRIBUTIONS.

Please help me prove that we don’t need mass events to support deserving causes.  NHS did fantastically to deliver me through a series of health issues to my 75th birthday last year.  Our community groups are sustaining huge efforts to support those in need, and the morale of all of us.  Please help me in turn to support two health-related charities and a range of small community projects.

Over the hill to Dunlop and back from my home in Uplawmoor is 10 miles (16km), with total vertical ascent of about 150 metres.  I plan to run it on Saturday 17th October 2020, or the first day after that up to 31st October when conditions (including my own!) permit.  All funds raised will be split like this:

1.       One third plus Gift Aid received to Levern Valley Defibrillator Community Partnership, to support the provision, installation and maintenance of defibrillators in the Barrhead, Neilston and Uplawmoor area.  (I didn’t need a defibrillator for my heart attack and operation in 2019, but they are there 24/7 to save lives.)  The Partnership is hosting the fundraising and will pass on the other shares below.

2.       One third to Prostate Scotland to support the early diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer (my GP saved me that way in 2018).

3.       One third to a fund administered by the Rotary Club of Barrhead, which – as has been done before – will make small grants to as many local activities and projects as possible in the Barrhead, Neilston and Uplawmoor areas (where I have lived most of my life and worked all of my full-time career).  How to apply will be publicised locally once fundraising is complete.
