Story
Welcome to the 40th Anniversary Swimathon!
This is my 9th year participating in My Swimathon and raising
Money for these fantastic trio
of charities; Cancer Research UK, Marie Curie and of course Swimathon itself. Originally I was motivated back in 2017 to improve my own health and fitness and to aid my weight loss. But over the years whilst swimming remains a critical part of my own fitness, being involved in Swimathon has evolved to be much more about trying to do a tiny bit to help these such worthwhile charities especially as I have had so many family members ( including my own mother), friends and colleagues who have suffered from cancer. They have shared their stories with me and supported these causes by donating to the challenges I have sent myself every year. In 2025 I I swam 22.5 k and raised just over £5000 because of the immense generosity of so many kind people from all over the world. This year because it’s the 40th anniversary of the event, and because I reach the milestone of my 64th birthday (!) I have set myself the goal of slightly raising the total amount I swim to 26.64 kilometres ( marking the year and my age!) and the amount raised to hopefully hit £ £5.640, again reflecting this birthday milestone. I intend to do this throughout the month of March but hopefully complete challenge in in a 11 day period in my local New Malden swimming pool. As per usual I will post updates of my progress in the hope that in reading this you will feel disposed to help even with smallest amount and kindly donate to my challenge.
I really do hope you can.
So with the Beatles song ringing in my ears I will carry on with my training and prepare for the off next week ‘
Thanks again for reading and please wish me luck!
Very Best
